A Set of Nine
Pins
- My Speciality
Each set produced is unique because
of the combination of different woods used and the shape
of the base and stem.
The pins sit on dowels set on the
base for ease of transportation.
Each set is numbered and each
comes with a list of the woods used in the set. The sets
are accompanied with a short history of the game of
ninepins printed on a manuscript style paper.
The set illustrated has an
attractive yew ball and the base is Ash with an Iroko
stem The stems have a captive ring on them (just for
fun)
The sets are really made as an
ornamental & collectable item but I know that
some of the sets sold are used for the odd gentle indoor
game. I recommend that you substitute say a tennis ball
for the wooden ball to avoid putting dings in the pins!
Each set takes me
approximately 7 hours to make and on average the wood
would cost at least £10. I sell these sets at the
unbelievable low price of £45 each.
Not much really for a unique and
rare special present for someone who loves wood.

Hand-Carved
Cribbage Scorer
A standard 121 holes per side with
two sets of scoring pegs in different woods. The board
can be hung on the wall when not on use.
The example shown is a piece of
oak just over 1" thick and approx 36" long and
7" wide. Scorers can be made in a variety of
different woods. Oak, Ash and Elm are all popular.
The top surface is lightly
polished and the reverse side can have a felt underlay
added if the board is to be used on an unprotected table
top.
The rough plank is carefully
marked out for drilling. Edges are bevelled and
decorative lines can be added with a router, before
sanding and finishing. All in all about 2.5 hours
work.

Solitaire Sets
